Close To You

by Syd Briscoe

Viagra: “Don't Let Life...” - 2 mins

Perhaps it's presumptuous to be surprised when an ad about male virility takes a sensitive route, but this delicate film for Viagra certainly defies expectations. The creeping lack of intimacy between a couple is subtly drawn throughout the ad's two minute run time, as their emotional distance becomes reflected by a physical chasm in their bed.

Angular animation and expressive character design allow the film to tell its story without words, and a lamenting cover of '500 Miles' strikes the appropriate emotional note.

As a product which is so often the butt of jokes or used as as an insulting reference to one's masculinity, this is an admirable approach for Viagra to take. By reminding viewers that both men and women desire intimacy and connection, it works to remove some of the stigma around impotence and sexual issues in general. Happier bedrooms lead to happier lives, after all.
