VW ID.3: “100% Electric” - 60s

The sound of children playing may have lost some of its wholesomeness for parents working from home during lockdown, but this sweet commercial for Volkswagen shows it's still possible to be charmed by their flights of fancy. The piece focuses on car noises, as children across various households ensure their miniature vehicles sound like they have the requisite horsepower. Yet one keeps things to a whisper.

It's a clever way to draw attention to the often-overlooked benefits of an electric car, as other manufacturers focus mainly on environmental concerns and running costs. Director Adi Halfin has done a lovely job with her youthful cast here, coaxing spirited performances around adults attempting to focus. The Easter school holidays may have come too soon for some, it seems.
