To The Limit

by Syd Briscoe

Toyota: “Every Time” - 60s

The limits of both man and machine are explored in this kinetic commercial for Toyota. Drawing attention to the brand's Camry Special Edition model, the film casts an artistic eye over the efforts of triathletes, bringing together visceral footage from each event in order to show the true depths of their exertion.

Such imagery is rendered with verve by director Nigel Simpkiss and DOP Andy Boulter, who imbue training shots in particular with a stylistic, otherwordly feel. This is dynamic work which refuses to be limited by its genre, much like its subjects refuse to be held back by the ordinary constraints of a human body. Good thing they can drive home from the finish line.
