Blood Drive

by Syd Briscoe

Tiggs Da Author: “Fly Em High (ft. Nines)” - 3 mins 20s

'Top Boy' meets 'The Lost Boys' in this intriguing promo for Tiggs Da Author's latest track 'Fly Em High'. Directed by Shan Phearon, the film makes liberal use of neon colour washes and creative lighting to achieve its distinctive aesthetic, as a drug-running clan of bloodsuckers go about their nefarious business.

All the rap video cliches are there (drugs, guns, scantily clad women gyrating for the camera), but subverted in unexpectedly gothic fashion. A skeleton receiving a rather terrifying lapdance in a paddling pool provides a particularly eye-catching update to vampire canon.

Attention-grabbing costume choices (we assume the visor sunglasses are part of the vampire uniform) - alongside forays into violence and glow in the dark exorcisms - ensure there's never a dull moment in this twisted universe. Kudos to Phearon et al. for pushing genre boundaries with this one.
