The Adults Are Talking

by Syd Briscoe

The Strokes: “The Adults Are Talking” - 4 mins 47s

The Strokes are attempting to return to their roots of late, with latest album 'The New Abnormal' capturing some of their spiky sound from classic record 'Is This It'. Yet the promo accompanying 'The Adults Are Talking' is very much looking forward, as the band face off against a team of cyborgs in what feels like an ill-matched game of baseball.

Director Roman Coppola has a long-established history with the band (having previously helmed a number of promos including 'Last Nite', 'The Modern Age' and '12:51'), and delivers similar flair here. The nocturnal match makes judicious use of slow-motion throughout, which is particularly effective when the band celebrate a 56-1 defeat like they know something we don't.
