Monkeying around.

by Syd Briscoe

Tajawal: “Bring Back You” - 2 mins

With international travel once again on the horizon in the wake of Covid-19, UAE-based travel app Tajawal encourages users to shake off their routine-induced ennui with a trip to exotic climbs. The unexpected protagonist of this intriguing short film on the matter is a mandrill monkey—one who's lost his wildness to the corporate world's relentless grind.

The furry office drone performs a mournful cover of Del Amitri's 'Nothing Ever Happens' throughout the ad's two-minute runtime, as he attends meetings, falls asleep on the sofa, and generally loses the will to live. Director Omar Hilal does a great job of balancing weirdness and ennui here, and we genuinely feel for the burnt-out primate by the end.
