The foil family.

Short Films: “The Countdown” - 4 mins 35s

Fencing is a sport that everyone becomes an expert on during the Olympic Games, with the Madonna scene from 'Die Another Day' regarded as preparation. This elegant documentary from director Jade Ang Jackman offers a more substantive look at the sport, focusing on French silver medallist Ysaora Thibus.

Dressed in a designer suit with foil in hand, Thibus reflects on the postponement of Tokyo 2020, the exposure given to women in combat sports, and the aggressive pageantry of each bout. Sharp in more ways than one, it's a worthy addition to this year's flood of sports documentaries.
