Lending a hand.

by Andrew MacGregor

Short Films: “The Birth of Valerie Venus (Trailer)” - 62s

Director Sarah Clift's follow-up to 'La Madre Buena' (The Good Mother) stars Jane Guernier as Valerie, the put-upon wife of Paul Hunter's boorish vicar, Norman. As this off-kilter trailer shows, Valerie's had enough of her golf-obsessed husband's behaviour... and so has the unseen force that's seemingly possessed her hands.

Like an empowering Middle England twist on body horror, the trailer shows Valerie's hands turn strawberries to mush, deliver a virtuoso performance on the church organ, and flip the bird like there's no tomorrow. Norman's hypnotic/disturbing warm-up routine may not be enough to protect him from a rural reckoning.
