Seeing is believing.

Short Films: “Not Just Anyone” - 2 mins 10s

This well-crafted short film from Craig Bingham reflects on the sporting journey of Jodie Ounsley—the first professional deaf female rugby player in the UK. Initially told to avoid contact sports due to the risk of further hearing damage, Ounsley's passion for her sport against the odds enthrals as the film plays out.

Bingham and his crew have made smart choices with their use of sound, approximating the electronic tones of a cochlear implant over footage of Ounsley growing up and finding her place on the rugby pitch. This is a perfect example of how a disabled athlete's story can be presented as inspiring without recourse to cliché—it's Ounsley's dedication and drive which are so compelling, not the fact she can't hear.
