Traffic Talk

by Syd Briscoe

Short Films: “Floaters” - 4 mins 07s

While the world around us feels pretty sci-fi these days, directors Karl Poyzer and Joe Roberts flip the script in this amusing short film. The piece brings mundane foibles into a futuristic setting, in which a pair of airships try to settle a dispute about traffic tickets... with limited success.

The voice acting is great throughout, as one ship takes an official tone while the other is a little more lackadaisical in their approach. A faltering attempt to use an alternative phonetic alphabet is a particular highlight of the canny script.

Boasting lovely animation work and a wry sense of humour, this film offers a glimpse at a future which is apparently not as fantastical as we might think. Or, at least, confirms that getting slapped on the wrist for bad driving will still be a thing when cars take to the skies.
