Feat of clay.

by Andrew MacGregor

Short Films: “Chilliwack River Clay” - 10 mins

Fans of The Great Pottery Throw Down will appreciate this languid documentary about Canadian ceramic artist Cathy Terepocki. Based in Yarrow, British Columbia, Terepocki uses clay harvested by hand from the banks for the Chilliwack River - an effort to produce work less about herself and "more about the material and the place".

The result is a hushed, tactile insight into her craft with a dash of self-sufficiency thrown in for good measure. A dinner table sequence blends these two elements nicely, as Terepocki's plates are christened with homemade pizza and salad. As more consumers examine the source of raw materials, this potrays Terepocki as a local hero.

Location: Yarrow, British Columbia
