Tears on Tape

by Syd Briscoe

Short Films: “Boys Do Cry” - 3 mins 48s

Male mental health is brought into the spotlight in this poignant Australian film. The piece reworks the Cure's 'Boys Don't Cry' into a choral piece, encouraging men of all creeds, colours, and ages to be more open about their internal struggles. It's a concept we've seen before, but director Tom Campbell pulls it off with sincerity here.

The film asks for audiences to commit to the ride as it clocks in at almost four minutes long, but patient viewers will find the emotional journey rewarding along the way. The extended runtime gives those watching space to reflect on their own emotional landscapes too, and isn't that the overall point of these campaigns?

Cinematographer: Sam Chiplin
