Surface tension.

by Andrew MacGregor

Red Bull: “Dive Tierra Bomba Dive” - 10 mins 36s

Only the most intrepid divers will have seen Varadero reef, located in Colombia’s Cartagena Bay. Local resident Yassandra Barrios is one such diver, and Red Bull are keen to bring her conservation efforts to a wider audience.

Directing duo Joya Berrow & Lucy Jane provide a vivid snapshot of Barrios’ life above and below the surface. Her love of the reef is rivalled only by her desire to rally others to the cause, which adds some cross-generational drama.

To also describe the setting as a character may be trite, but it applies here. From the ramshackle streets of Bocachica to Varadero reef itself, Berrow and Jane’s affection for the area is clear for all to see.
