Pokerstars: “Epic Downtime” - 60s
This well-staged ad for Pokerstars features zombies, ninjas, Roman soldiers, and a mariachi band, to name but a few. Inspired by the opening to Robert Altman’s ‘The Player’, the commercial tracks a performer’s journey from the set to his trailer. Despite the hustle and bustle around him, Alfonso is more interested in online slots. This is billed as "epic downtime", which may irk those already concerned by the effects of boredom-induced gambling. However, the ad's lively execution, fun background details, and fluid camerawork means you're rather swept along by it as well. Just don't blow your pay cheque all at once, Alfonso.
