Monster

by Syd Briscoe

Paloma Faith: “Monster” - 3 mins 23s

Hammer Horror meets female empowerment in this absorbing promo for Paloma Faith's latest track 'Monster'. The film offers a modern twist on the Frankenstein mythos, as a mysterious mad scientist figure attempts to create the 'perfect' woman in increasingly unhinged ways.

Director Yousef draws from a diverse range of influences here, with touches of Bollywood and heightened horror shining through in stylised dance sequences and flashes of gore. Sean Hart gives a bloodthirsty performance as the piece's central villain, making his victims' final revenge all the more satisfying.

Faith's powerhouse vocals on 'Monster' need a promo strong enough to complement rather than clash with the track, and this certainly delivers. Gripping, gross, and infused with just the right amount of camp sensibility, pop fans and horror fanatics alike will be left begging for more.
