Oppo: “Strangers” - 60s

The success of WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney Plus must have brands itching for a piece of Marvel action. Sure enough, Chinese smartphone maker Oppo enter the fray with this nimble commercial directed by Nick Bartleet.

What it lacks in character development (boy and girl exchange glances on a train, job's a good'un), it makes up for in filmmaking fireworks. The advertised Reno5 allows the pair to escape the train and its armoured conductor, only to run straight into a laser battle.

Bolts and debris fizz through the air, evoking the Marvel Cinematic Universe at its most frenetic (and, erm, pro-collateral damage). Aided by some robust sound design, the result is a confident piece of TVC action that amplifies handheld escapism.
