Fill my boots.

by Andrew MacGregor

Nike: “Mercurial Dream Speed” - 60s

It seems only yesterday that Cristiano Ronaldo became the most expensive teenager in English football history. Now thirty-five, the Juventus and Portugal forward speaks to the only person capable of replicating his success: himself, of course.

What makes this 60” Nike commercial stand out from the fawning crowd is Richard Swarbrick’s painterly animation, which charts the evolution of Ronaldo’s playing style from boy to man. The Portugeuse star may initially address his younger self, but he also throws down the gauntlet to others.

Ronaldo’s reflective VO ties both the animated and live-action segments together, ensuring a surprisingly tasteful ode to one of football’s most divisive figures. Now it's up to youngsters to fill his (Mercurial Dream Speed 3) boots.
