Make-A-Wish Foundation UK: “Light Up the Darkness” - 90s

A solemn David Walliams narrates this ad for the Make-A-Wish Foundation's UK arm. Depending on your taste and tolerance for the man, Walliams's performance is either a welcome change of pace or a distracting misstep.

Allegations of racism and fat shaming saw one of the children's author's stories removed last month, which might explain why he sounds so intense here. Seriously ill children are no laughing matter of course, but the dial may have been turned up to Batman by accident.

The ad itself is another spin on the light versus dark meme, evoking Mark Zibert's recent Sick Kids film. As Christmas approaches, the organisation's desire to help brighten as many patients' lives as possible gets through.
