Live to Survive

by Andrew MacGregor

MØ: “Live to Survive” - 4 mins 07s

Danish singer-songwriter MØ returns with a thumping, defiant piece of electropop that is hard to resist. Karen Marie Ørsted hurls lyrics like "You dragged me down that hole with you/So now you can stay there" and "You won't be the last of me, baby" with relish, as the track blends twinkly synths and a tenacious drumbeat.

Director Joanna Nordahl's promo is equally gutsy, with MØ (or her stunt double, at least) at full tilt inside a Globe of Death before a late jump into paganism. Vivid lighting and production design sell both environments, suggesting that the Dane now inhabits a darker space than her Scandipop rivals (Sigrid, Zara Larsson, etc.).
