Klarna: “BBQ” - 30s

Every pandemic has a silver lining, the, erm, adage goes. For ‘buy now, pay later’ outfit Klarna, it’s online shopping. Lockdown has seen digital purchases soar, along with concerns about debt caused by postponed payments. As if the future wasn’t hazy enough.

The Swedes’ advice is to “shop smart”, like the savvy star of this 30” commercial. She fancies a barbecue Hank from King of the Hill would be proud of, but, as the sage VO points out, bigger doesn’t always mean better.

Her route to reasonably priced joy is both wry and colourful, aided by an expressive lead performance. Will it be enough to prevent a tidal wave of buyer’s remorse? Only time will tell, funnily enough.
