Spice up your crisps

Kettle Chips: “There's More...” - 30s

It's easy to underestimate a piece of advertising like this. It isn't brimming with the edginess so loved by awards juries, and there is no scope for flashy visuals. It's a straightforward proposition because it has a simple job to to do... namely, letting consumers know that there is a greater range of Kettle Chips flavours than they imagined.

To that end, the woman in the ad shopping with her partner represents punters everywhere as she's surprised by what's on offer, in more ways than one.

The use of sport style commentators brings to mind the marvellous lockdown films put out on social media by Andrew Cotter, and it's a shame the Scottish broadcaster is prevented by BBC rules from adding his dulcet tones to a campaign like this one. The voiceover artists nonetheless do a fine job accentuating the script's humour, with casting and performance contributing as well.

This is advertising which will get the job done. DAVID would be astonished if this doesn't spike the sales of the advertised product, and especially their more unusual flavours.
