Three-minute warning.

by Syd Briscoe

Keno: “Play On” - 3 mins

Australia's Keno bingo embraces the ubiquity of its image with this entertaining three-minute outing. Based on the waiting time between each game, the film takes place in an old school working club - complete with middle-aged hen dos, karaoke stages decorated with plastic streamers, and pool tables of indeterminate colour.

Thus a trip to the ladies room assumes the feel of a music promo, a version of Claudja Barry's Seventies track 'Love for the Sake of Love' adding to the faded glamour of the scene. Director Sam Hibbard imbues the film with a great deal of affection throughout, embracing the un-hip setting with loving touches like dinners overflowing with gravy and a peacefully grooving doorman.
