Jose Cuervo: “Date More Human” - 82s

The ghosts of a thousand excruciating Tinder dates haunt this amusing ad for Jose Cuervo. A pair of robots purportedly house AIs trained on dating app conversations, and are sent on a 'date' to see how such an interaction will play out. The results are depressingly familiar for anyone trying to find company in 2021.

Lovely production design helps the ad's humour shine here, as each robot is dressed to the nines... at least on their top half. The mixture of humanoid features and android machinery matches the stilted conversation perfectly, as lines of enquiry about horror movies and salsa dancing predictably peter out.

While loosening one's tongue with tequila isn't a universally-recommended method of combating first date awkwardness, this spot's restrained charm and modern comedy makes a decent case for it. It'll flatten the memory of any robotically forced laughs, at least.
