The Writing on the Wall

by Syd Briscoe

Iron Maiden: “The Writing on the Wall” - 7 mins 24s

This epic animated promo for Iron Maiden's latest track 'The Writing on the Wall' combines biblical allegory with a party at the end of the world. Director (and longtime metalhead) Nicos Livesey helms the almost seven-and-a-half minute film, which brings fresh appeal to the long established hand-drawn vibe of Maiden's album art.

There are shades of 'Mad Max: Fury Road' at play here, with a convoy of staggering relics from pre-apocalyptic times led through the desert by exaggerated caricatures of national leaders. An environmental twist brings the veteran rockers' message up to date alongside their aesthetic, as a new incarnation of mascot Eddie saves a futuristic Adam and Eve from destruction.
