Hole In One... Hundred

by Syd Briscoe

Irish Lotto: “Golf” - 60s

This entertaining ad for the Irish National Lottery demonstrates that dreams, however improbable, can come true. A hapless golfer refuses to quit despite his terrible form, determined to achieve a hallowed hole-in-one no matter how long it takes.

Damien O'Donnell's 60" film is shrewdly paced, as each new failure is given the space to land. The golfer's mates and a passing greenkeeper are fun additions too, as their reactions complement the ad's slapstick sense of humour.

The final triumph is skilfully executed - a near-impossible scenario which suggests that although the odds of winning the jackpot are small, sometimes miracles do happen. It's cheerful, encouraging work that will appeal to the dreamers among us.
