Style and soul.

by Syd Briscoe

H & M: “One Second Suit” - 90s

H&M offer job applicants a helping hand with their latest initiative—free twenty-four-hour suit rental to attend an interview with their head held high. It's a smart initiative on multiple levels (saving money for applicants, reducing the waste of fast fashion, promoting the brand's menswear line, etc.), and director Mark Romanek makes it look like a no-brainer style-wise too.

Hinging on the concept that first impressions are made in less than a second, the film centres on young applicants who feel more confident and relaxed when they look the part. The accompanying voicemail from a mum adds a supportive element too, though the underlying music veers towards melodrama.
