HM Government: “Let's Get Going” - 60s

In these straightened times, is it really fair to criticise companies for taking the government's dollar to devise and make a campaign designed to persuade the public that Brexit is a tremendous entrepreneurial opportunity rather than the greatest act of self-harm that any democracy has imposed on itself since the end of the Second World War?

Many of you reading this may consider that to be a fair question… and many of you may not. But, how ever you feel about Brexit, its impact is no longer hypothetical… it's coming at us hard and fast and, with Boris Johnson's uncompromising determination to eschew any extension of the transition regardless of whether it is in the U.K.'s best interests or not, we'd better get used to the idea.

Does that mean though that those of us who oppose Brexit every fibre can, as this piece of propaganda urges us to, spy any opportunities in this new form of isolationism?

It's a question shrouded in irony, because the reality of the Brexit demographics mean that responsibility for making it a success will fall largely upon those of us who rejected it when it was put before us in the referendum. Maybe we can, maybe we can't... but, either way, we can expect little help from the fools who voted for.

It's bad enough facing these realities without then being confronted by government propaganda which pretends that we are sailing towards an economic nirvana. We are not. The best that can be hoped is that it will not turn out to be as bad as is feared. It's not a very lofty aspiration.

With all of that said – and DAVID apologises if the preceding paragraphs are not what you signed up for – this evocation of a fantasy Brexit has been shaped as beautifully as one might expect, given that the director was Simon Ratigan.
