Low Era

by Andrew MacGregor

Geese: “Low Era” - 4 mins 24s

'Low Era', the second track from New York rock band Geese, is a persuasive blend of arch vocals, jangly guitars, and shoegaze spunk. Frontman Cameron Winter's lyrics have a misfit zing to them ("On the hour of my death, the page rips/All is lost and I am left to rot"), sung with both authority and playfulness in a deft juggling act.

As for the promo, director Fons Schiedon runs with the track's apocalyptic undertones, creating a stream of celestial events, paranormal apartment blocks, and cat-operated ouija boards. When the song reaches its instrumental finale, Schiedonís LSD filter almost overwhelms. Still, it's nothing a few eye drops and a lie-down won't fix.
