Forever Young

by Syd Briscoe

Film Trailers: “Jackass Forever” - 2 mins 13s

To say DAVID was surprised when this trailer popped up in his YouTube feed would be an understatement. Who, in the year of our Lord 2022, is interested in watching ageing stuntmen and skateboarders hurt themselves for laughs?

In fact, this makes for a surprisingly touching watch for those who grew up with Jackass as a perennial TV presence. Johnny Knoxville's hair may be grey, the cast may be significantly more sober than in previous years, and certain faces are conspicuously missing, but it feels more like a reunion of old friends than an attempt to cling onto some illusion of youth.

There are a few nods to the struggles which have befallen the cast since the last movie (the untimely death of Ryan Dunn, one of the saner members, being among them), but most of the trailer is given over to the sort of shenanigans fans expect: electric shocks, snake bites, and people being kicked in the nackers.

It's strange to think that the demographic most excited by this release are now adults with jobs, mortgages, and kids of their own, but this outing from Knoxville and co will send them hurtling back into misspent youths gone by. Let's hope violent pranks don't catch on for the TikTok generation, though.
