Distant Dreams

by Syd Briscoe

Expedia: “Ride of Your Life” - 60s

Travel takes on a fantastical twist in this transcendent film for Expedia. A woman is transported from the daily grind to exotic locales simply by looking at them on the advertised site, creating an experience which is part-daydream, part-aspirational holiday reality.

From a sleek underwater sequence to the main character bursting forth from a cocoon of flower petals, this is an exercise in texture as much as visual flair. Director Henry Scholfield and DOP Albert Salas have created a surreal yet surprisingly grounded vibe here, allowing viewers to picture themselves in similarly ethereal circumstances.

The blend of down to earth holiday experiences (visiting local markets, eating with friends) and psychedelic twists is nicely done, creating a balance between the heightened and the possible. This holds particular appeal during the dreary days of a grey January, and will encourage those watching to consider fleeing to sunnier climes.
