Music and memories.

by Syd Briscoe

Erste: “Edgar's Christmas” - 2 mins 01s

Austrian bank Erste ruminate on the transporting effect of music in this poignant animated outing. An elderly gent has a difficult time adjusting to his new nursing home, ignoring other residents' attempts to make friends and refusing to wear his hearing aid. Yet when a curious nurse uncovers his withered passion for music, things take a turn for the better.

Heartwarming and affecting by turns, the film offers a well-observed insight into the emotional turmoil that comes with one's body no longer functioning as it did. Sadness hidden under grumpiness is no less keenly felt, and it's a reminder that (especially at this time of year, after the isolation of 2020) elderly relatives deserve a little extra TLC. Kudos to directors Kyra & Constantin for the deftly handled emotional build-up.
