Hell for leather.

by Andrew MacGregor

Engelmüller: “Drive to Win” - 2 mins 02s

This diverting Czech ad offers an insight into wartime survival, with car manufacturer Aero under threat from both Hitler and Stalin at various points. Shot like a hard-boiled history lesson, director Prokop Motl’s film uses atmospheric lighting and evocative production design to illustrate the marque's supposed mettle.

It’s a worthwhile story told with cinematic verve, as the Aero Minor Sport eventually participates in the 24 Hours of Le Mans before Soviet interference takes hold. Even if they indulge in one too many film cliches across two minutes, leather driving glove brand Engelmüller do their late compatriots’ history justice.
