It's the dun thing.

by Syd Briscoe

Dunelm: “Your Way” - 60s

A dull dystopia receives a makeover in this well-made ad for Dunelm. The set-up is handled with great attention to detail by director Stephen Pipe and DOP Benedict Spence, with monochrome magazines, colourless TV channels, and uniform neighbourhoods all dedicated to relentless conformity. Yet once the advertised homeware retailers get involved, it's all change.

The transformation is colourfully executed, as one couple sets an example and enlivens their home with a riot of furniture and furnishings. This is bound to appeal to viewers jonesing for house guests in a post-lockdown world, and will encourage those in a rut to freshen up before the inevitable Christmas visits begin.
