Dunelm: “Home Truths” - 75s
Life's little foibles are rendered in this charming ad for Dunelm. Directed by Joanna Bailey, the film encompasses the ups and downs of day-to-day living with an intimate gaze - early-morning dashes to catch the bin men, unexpected requests for evening doilies, and all. Each vignette is warmly executed, balancing frustration and amusement as different moments are shown. The life of a dog owner attempting to work from home under his pooch's watchful eye will particularly resonate with pandemic pet owners subjected to their own version of furry micromanagement. This is another good example of the ad industry's shift in attitude as we approach a post-lockdown world, as it moves towards acknowledging our home-bound lifestyles without focusing on restriction. It's a welcome change of pace, and one which will appeal to audiences sick of ruminating on how staid things have been over the past year.
