Front line thoughts.

Cox Wifi: “Full of Love” - 1 min 55s

As the Covid-19 pandemic wears on, the messaging around the role of healthcare workers has gradually shifted from abject panic to resigned exhaustion. While a 2021 resurgence of 'Clap for Carers' has been met with a decidedly muted response on this side of the pond, this American ad for Cox Wifi focuses on the impact of critical care work on one nurse's psyche - throwing her own family relationships into a new light.

Director John X. Carey takes an admirably measured approach, as the everyday tragedies of the ICU (shaving patients so oxygen masks fit, disinfecting the belongings of the deceased, etc.) are rendered in sensitive fashion. There are no large displays of emotion here - merely an overworked professional stoically trying to make the best of the time she has left with loved ones. Sobering yet quietly incisive work.
