Cadbury Dairy Milk: “The Originals” - 80s

Cadbury and Age UK's 'Donate Your Words' campaign to combat loneliness in old age as taken on a new urgency during the Covid-19 pandemic. Before lockdown, many elderly people could at least rely on a cup of tea with a relative to ease their isolation. Now such impromptu visits are a matter of life and death.

This latest instalment - sensitively handled by director by Billy Boyd Cape - focuses on the quality of interaction, rather than the quantity. Rather than asking someone how their day is or what they had for dinner, we should find out what they really want to talk about. The results can be surprising.

From attending notable moments in history (like the first Notting Hill Carnival) to travelling the world and even running away to join the circus, this ad is a compelling reminder that older people had rich lives long before age crept up on them. Now they're some of the country's best storytellers.
