I'd Rather Die Than Be Deported

by Andrew MacGregor

Berwyn: “I'd Rather Die Than Be Deported” - 2 mins 38s

Hollywood's obsession with the Golden Gate Bridge has been well documented over the years. Perhaps this striking promo for rapper Berwyn will inspire filmmakers to consider the Dartford Crossing instead.

Shot by Stink Rising's LOOSE, the promo is a one-take journey across the bridge after hours. If that wasn't dicey enough, Berwyn leans out of a moving vehicle for the majority of the trip. It's enough to make a junior traffic cop faint.

The imagery may scream reckless behaviour, but it chimes well with the Trinidad-born, London-based singer's lyrics about displacement and constant upheaval ("This is the life/This is the roads/I had to die before I was born"). One of the more vulnerable rap promos you're likely to see anytime soon.
