B & Q: “Build a Life” - 60s

Lives are built, not bought - at least, according to this engaging commercial from B&Q and agency Uncommon. Lockdown has given Brits a new appreciation for their home environments, and the retailer reckon it's time to remind people that their DIY abilities are limited only by their imagination.

The family-focused campaign features snippets of home videos (sixty-nine, in fact) to represent the sixty-nine cities across the UK. It's a neat way to emphasise the role B&Q have played in so many home renovations over the years, in addition to showcasing the diversity of DIY-ers across the nation.

Accompanied by a warm if portentous voiceover from Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann, this campaign's relatable, lo-fi approach should chime with anyone tired of staring at the same four walls. An encouraging addition to the lockdown canon.
