Quests and questions.

Amazon Echo: “Pompeii” - 60s

Amazon's latest historically-minded Alexa campaign transports viewers back to the Roman Empire. While previous ads have explored classical French opera and dragon-rich worlds à la Game of Thrones, this instalment plonks the audience—and protagonist—firmly in 79AD during the destruction of Pompeii.

A lovely central performance anchors the piece, as a polo-shirted dad benignly asks fleeing citizens what year it is with only mild to non-existent concern for their plight. He is, as it turns out, merely trying to impress his daughter with his history know-how.

It's a twist which will feel relatable to many after the home-schooling trials and tribulations of the past year, as well as those parents who feel left behind by the march of technology. Having an electronic study buddy to cheat from can't hurt when it comes to homework, can it?
