Squat are Samsung up to?

by Andrew MacGregor

"YOU are the controller" is how Microsoft sold the Kinect for Xbox consoles back in the 2010s. The motion sensor failed to transform video games like they hoped it would, but Samsung and gym chain Basic-Fit must have liked what they saw.

The two brands have come up with 'Galaxy Space Squat', a game that uses data from the Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra to move a spacecraft. Gym-goers 'pilot' the ship with squats, believe it or not, though success depends on more than just raw power. Controlled movements are needed to steer the ship over and under obstacles.

With a retrowave look that harks back to the golden age of arcade games, the project aims to make exercise in Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands more—you guessed it—fun. Those who live for leaderboards will be glad to know the winner gets a Galaxy Watch Ultra made with aerospace-grade titanium. No wonder Samsung and Basic-Fit plumped for a spacecraft.
