Helena Coan joins OB's independent Roster.

by Syd Briscoe

OB Management have signed director, writer, and musician Helena Coan to their roster for independent representation.

Abbots Langley-born Coan caught the directing bug while working in a film archive library, making short documentaries and films for art galleries and museums before branching out into her own creative work.

It's perhaps no surprise that documentary work remains one of Coan's passions. Her projects are characterised by an eagerness to dive beneath the surface of her subjects - stripping away the gloss to see what makes them tick before presenting it in a meticulously constructed narrative package.

Her recent documentary feature 'Audrey' demonstrates this to a tee, as it paints an intimate portrait of the life and work of iconic actress Audrey Hepburn. Hollywood glamour is merely one stop on the journey for Coan, who collaborated with CBE British choreographer Wayne McGregor to envision moments from Hepburn's childhood as a ballerina during WWII.

Whether youíre directing a documentary or a narrative project, itís all about vulnerability, collaboration, truth and mutual understanding.

Helena Coan.

That's not to say documentaries are the only string to Coan's bow - far from it. Her debut narrative short 'Keepsake' weaves an enthralling tale which draws viewers in from the start, following two strangers in unlikely circumstances as one sees the opportunity to leave her abusive life behind. It's a story which grabs the audience by the throat and doesn't let go, and speaks to Coan's ability to tease deeply compelling performances from her cast - something we're sure will take the UK scene by storm under OB's guidance.
