Francisco Colombatti signs for Birth UK.

by Andrew MacGregor

Health-conscious finger puppets inspired Birth UK to sign Argentine director Francisco Colombatti. His recent ad for LALCEC uses them to endorse prostate examinations, aided by catchy lyrics and superb character design.

After executive producer Kate Elson watched 'Don't Fear the Finger', she made Colombatti her top priority: "I delved into the rest of his work and it took me the rest of the week to stop laughing. He has the ability to combine an irreverent sense of humour with empathy and detailed craft."

It's a homecoming of sorts for Colombatti, who studied visual arts at Central Saint Martins and worked as an art director at Santo London. When the chance to return to the UK arose, the Boca Juniors fan realised that Birth ticked all the boxes.

"I needed a partner to make top quality work but in a fresh way," Colombatti explains. "A production company that shares my vision of going after the best ideas and having great respect for craft and detail. And above all, being good and honest people. So Birth was the best match!"

More of Fran Colombatti's work is available here. For availability, drop Kate Elson a line via kate@birth.tv.
