Film Klaxon: Hakeem.

by Andrew MacGregor

Hak Baker, the man behind DAVID's album of 2023, 'Worlds End FM', learned to play guitar in prison when his name was pulled out of a hat. This captured the imagination of directors James Topley and Ivo Beckett (also known as Deadhorses), who spent five years at his side.

The result is 'Hakeem', a fifty-five minute documentary made through OB42 and edited by Final Cut's Claire McGonigal. Not only does it focus on Baker's music (choice cuts include 'Telephones 4 Eyes' and 'Doolally'), but also the streets of east London that preoccupy his mind. Shot with a raw, strobe-lit urgency, it's all about the fabulous Baker boy.
