South African director Emilie Badenhorst is ready to crack the UK market with Agile Films. Like many of her contemporaries, Badenhorst shot and edited her early work single-handedly, making films which often explored the gritty side of Cape Town.
Her insights into multilingualism, Afrikaner culture, and the LGBTQ+ community soon intrigued advertisers with youth on the brain. Work for brands like Puma, Zalando, and Vodafone then caught the attention of Agile's executive producer Fliss Hutcheson, who knew she wanted Badenhorst on board ASAP.
"I'm thrilled to have Emilie join the Agile team," Hutcheson says. "I am a huge fan of hers and can't wait to work together. I love how authentic and raw her films are. and her ability to capture genuine, emotive performances really struck me". Badenhorst is perhaps best known for 'Here to Stay', a Zalando commercial that stars the first openly gay male rapper in the UK drill and trap genre. Scored by Mista Strange's bespoke soundtrack, the ad brims with energy and inclusivity—progressive brands best form an orderly queue now.
