Academy swoop for GRANDMAS.

by Andrew MacGregor

Mancunian directing duo GRANDMAS love misdirection. Their headshot features two Dobermans on a plaid bed, while their real names are on a strictly need-to-know basis. Who says there are no mysteries left in the world?

At least GRANDMAS are easier to find now, as they've joined Academy Films for commercial representation. The move follows a successful stint at Black Dog Films, where their nascent promo skills and Northern humour shone through.

They also draw inspiration from post-industrial towns and cities, with films set in working men's clubs, amusement arcades, and seaside resorts. Examples include two promos for fellow Mancunians Pearl City, which explore physicality and self-esteem in vastly different ways.

Keen to stretch themselves further, GRANDMAS wrote and directed ‘Norteños’ - a dark comedy about love, murder, and baked beans. Shot for just £500, the eight-minute film boasts endearing, oddball performances and visuals that bode well for the future. Who knows - they may even reveal their identities at some point!

You can see more from GRANDMAS here on their Academy page. To talk business, ring George Floyd on 020 7395 4155 or email george@academyfilms.com.
