Backbeats and backboards.

by Andrew MacGregor

Wren: “Rap” - 1 min 36s

One wouldn't normally associate rap and kitchen fittings, but Wren think there is crossover appeal. This enjoyably naff outing sees a pyjama-wearing rapper tour one of Wren's showrooms, reeling off lyrics such as "Let's start by looking at the backboard/8mm thick and reinforced for more support" whilst neatly drawing attention to the retailer's brand comparison option.

What could have been an otherwise drab product demonstration is enhanced by a knowing lead performance and director LX's promo-inflected visuals - rarely has a kitchen surface been used in such slick fashion. Furthermore, it directly challenges Wren's competitors to up their game… or to an after-hours rap battle in a retail park, perhaps.
