The Queen's Speech

by Syd Briscoe

Vodafone: “Queen” - 20s

This restrained piece of work for Vodafone by director Michelle Savill takes the irritation of untimely mobile phone calls back in time... to when people were far less tolerant of being interrupted, particularly when they had entire countries to run.

A regal performance anchors the piece, as Queen Elizabeth II's famous Tilbury speech is cut off by a familiar, jangly electronic tone. The monarch's sudden laser focus is enough to intimidate even the most committed problem talker - here's hoping that stare on a cinema screen makes inconsiderate moviegoers embrace radio silence.

Director: Michelle Savill
Cinematographer: Maria Ines Manchego
