Out of Sight, but Not Out of Mind

by Syd Briscoe

Unseen UK: “Salesforce” - 3 mins 49s

The hidden issue of modern slavery is sensitively explored in this touching film for Unseen UK. The charity aims to offer those trapped in servitude a way out of their seemingly impossible situation, all while gathering and collating data in order to help others caught in the same nightmare.

Director Marcus Ubungen's clean-cut documentary approach works well here, as scenes of the charity's staff explaining their mission to camera are interspersed with some of the places slavery is known to lurk in the UK: nail bars, restaurants, car washes, et cetera.

These scenarios offer a timely reminder for viewers to be careful about accidentally contributing to the cycle of abuse, while simultaneously exploring a little-known charity's methods and goals. Modern slavery only thrives in darkness, and this is work which shines a light where it's needed most.
