Threefold Tragedy

by Syd Briscoe

Trocaire: “Losing Everything” - 69s

This poignant communication from Irish charity Trocaire reminds us that there are many reasons for people to be thrown into dire straits. Whether through war, government corruption, or simply the cruelty of others, it's a timely reminder that people needing help have rarely, if ever, put themselves in that position.

The three scenarios played out here are depressingly common, yet sensitively and intensely rendered by director Brian O'Malley. From bombings to stolen to homelessness due to the death of a spouse, it's an impressive exercise in showing the human face behind the headlines.
