Subaru: In the doghouse.

by Andrew MacGregor

Subaru: “Welcome to the Pack” - 90s

Lance Acordís fruitful relationship with Subaru continues with this charming ad. This bloke looks forward to spending some quality time with his girlfriend. Thereís just one furry complication: Butch the dog.

From the moment man and dog lock eyes, our moneyís on the canine. Butch uses his entire arsenal: growls, death stares, and even tactical toothbrush sabotage. Something tells us this pooch has thwarted many a suitor.

The human protagonists carry their weight, too. Her loyalties are torn throughout, while he describes Butch as ďan old soul thatÖ just hates my gutsĒ. Fortunately, tensions thaw around the campfire. Manís best friend? Letís take things slow.

Thanks to Acordís playful treatment, the marque strengthens its personable image. Meanwhile, the advertised SUV plays second fiddle as a reliable background presence.
